Spotify in the USA
So it’s a pain to use spotify for me… Follow me along on my lil complicated mess.
I use linux:
WineI use last.fm:
ScrobblifyI live in USA:
This one is tricky. So After 14 days your account will be un-usable if you dont login via a UK pipeline (proxy). The nice thing is that you can input proxy details in spotify itself. So if you have a reliable proxy then you shouldn’t have to login via teh web interface every two weeks.1) http://www.samair.ru/proxy
Grep around on this proxy list site, and try to find a UK proxy that works.2) Test UK proxies by installing FoxyProxy and going to google.
3) When you find one that works you can simply login via the web interface and you should be golden. Otherwise just turn off the internet on your computer, and startup spotify (change proxy settings). Then get back on the internet, and hit sign in.
I’ll try and post proxies that work so that you can share along with the fun. Lemme know if you have good luck, and I’ll post a new proxy when I need one so check back if your account expires…

Added music scrobbler, and habari rocks my socks with ‘Flickr Media Silo’
First on my list is the music scrobbler/spotify/mpdscribble…
Lets start with Spotify. It’s a hybrid between pandora & iTunes, and borders on illegal. It’s not yet availiable in the USA, unless you know a few little tricks
. There is no buffering, and it has a lot of content avaliable. I still love my personal Jinzora server running at home, but have started to use it a lot less with the introduction to spotify. This is where my new flickr plugin comes into play. Since I started using Habari I’ve blogged more, and have been happy to jot down my thoughts not only for you (the reader), but mainly for me because I’m forgetful. I started using the Flickr Media Silo today, and absolutely love it. It allows me easy storage, the social networking aspect of flickr, and best of all it’s simple.
Back to Spotify with this nifty Screenshot
So I’m running Spotify under Wine with a neat little program called Scrobblify It uses the last.fm client and allows you to scrobble what you’re listening to on Spotify. Pretty swell…
Another nifty program found since my induction to scrobbling is mpdscribble for mpd. It took me seconds to configure (edited /etc/mpdscribble.conf) started the daemon, and was scrobbling mpd in no-time.
Anywho, I’m now part of the scrobbling phenomenon. I added a little scriptlet to the right of my site. I’ll prolly make my own soon that’s less bulky, but for now I’ll just stick with the last.fm widget.
